Digital sovereignty: why we're moving to Clever Cloud

At 5DAYS, sovereignty has never been a marketing line. It’s a selection criterion behind every technical decision. And contrary to a common belief, sovereignty isn’t only about hosting data in Europe. It’s also — above all — about not depending on an American provider subject to laws such as the CLOUD Act or FISA 702, which can compel a US company to grant access to data, even data hosted in Europe.

That reasoning is what led us to choose Brevo over an American giant to send our emails. It’s what led us to choose Mistral AI, a French model, for part of our AI processing. And it’s why we’re announcing today that we’re moving our customers’ data storage to Clever Cloud.

Why Clever Cloud

Clever Cloud is an independent French hosting provider that offers a clause few players in the market dare to put on the table: an ultimate sovereignty clause. In practice, that means a strong contractual commitment that your data stays under European law, with no exposure to US extraterritorial legislation — not even indirectly, not even through a subsidiary or a technical partner.

For a European company that entrusts 5DAYS with its meetings, documents and decisions, that isn’t a legal detail. It’s the guarantee that your team’s memory stays under a jurisdiction you control.

The core of our stack is European

This move isn’t a one-off; it continues a trajectory:

Every building block of our tech stack is chosen with the same question in mind: could a provider, a foreign law or commercial pressure one day force us to grant access to our customers’ data without their consent? For these building blocks — data storage, AI model, email — the answer is no. The few non-European services we still use (meeting recording and transcription, Microsoft and Google calendars, payments) are listed publicly on our subprocessors page, and we’re working to reduce them.

What it changes for you

Nothing changes in your day-to-day use of 5DAYS: the migration is seamless. What changes is how solid a guarantee we can give you — especially if you have to meet strict GDPR requirements, satisfy a legal department or answer a public tender with digital-sovereignty criteria, which is becoming the rule rather than the exception in public procurement and large companies alike.

Sovereignty isn’t a state you reach once and for all. It’s constant vigilance over every supplier, every contract, every line of our infrastructure. This move to Clever Cloud is the latest proof of it.
